Keep Your Jewelry Safe!

When you’re dealing with precious stones and jewelry, there’s more you need to keep in mind than just storage when it comes to keeping your jewelry safe. Getting your pieces appraised and insuring them can give you peace of mind and help you recover your expense in the event of a loss.

At CMI, our staff includes a Gemological Institute of America Graduate Gemologist, as well as GIA trained appraisers, and unlike most jewelry stores, we offer a FREE appraisal with all qualifying jewelry purchases. We also offer appraisals of previously owned jewelry for $35-$75 per piece.

Once your appraisal is complete, we suggest insuring through Jewelers Mutual Insurance Group. Click here to read more on appraisals and insurance so you can take care of your jewelry in the best way possible.

Citrine

Citrine is a red-orange quartz whose presence has grown over the last several decades thanks to the popularity of “Earth-toned” jewelry, although it’s been used throughout history, dating back to Roman times.

While natural Citrine is a pale, smoky yellow, the Citrine we know today is produced by heating the quartz with Amethyst- a process which is usually done right at the mine. This gives Citrine the bold, bright and beautiful color that makes it such a fashionable choice.

The fact that Citrine has no cleavage and is available in large sizes means jewel cutters are able to create stunning, intricate, and standout pieces using this fine gem. It is stable in light, not sensitive to chemicals, and requires no special care.

PLACES TO EAT: The Peddler Steakhouse

The Peddler is a classic destination that is known for being the first salad bar in Raleigh and is famous for their smoked oysters and of course, their tableside “peddler” who cuts your steak by hand in front of you! Our tip: make sure to order the extra large cut, and stop into The Closet Bar for a cocktail. Their Raleigh location has been serving up their incredible charcoal grilled steaks since 1969- make it a date night and relive your prom again- it’s just the way you remembered!
