Peridot
Known for its lime green color, Peridot is August’s birthstone. Depending on the amount of iron in the gem, the actual color can vary from yellow to olive to brownish green. Peridots were favored by pirates because they believed the gems were powerful tools against all evil, and, if set in gold, were said to protect the wearer from terrors in the night.
